AUS Vs IND: Not many batsmen from India have successfully scored a double century in Australia. The conditions are tough for the batters who hail from Asia and the subcontinent. The pitches have extra bounce which helped the bowlers the most and the bowling lineup of the Aussies is also world-class in all the conditions that make life difficult for the Indian batters Down Under.
Despite all the challenges here are the three Indian batters who have scored a double ton in Australia while playing a red ball series Down Under. Cheteshwar Pujara was the last Indian batter to score a double century against the Aussies. But that knock of 204 runs was played in 2013 at Hyderabad.
Today We Shall Name The Last Batter From The Men In Blue Nation Who Scored A Double Century In Test Matches Played On Australian Soil –
1. Ravi Shastri –
The former Indian coach and an all-rounder was the first ever Indian batsman to amass a double century in Australia. Shastri played a gem of an innings at Sydney Cricket Ground in 1992. His score of 206 runs ensured that Team India would not lose that game. Ravi also picked up four wickets to his name in the second innings to earn a Player of the Match award in that encounter.
2. Rahul Dravid –
Another former coach of the Indian Cricket Team is mentioned in this list. Rahul Dravid, who is still known as The Wall played a magnificent knock at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide. His knock turned into a match winning one for India. He scored 233 runs in challenging circumstances which helped India to come on top from that reeling situation in the second innings. Dravid was the second Indian to amass a double ton in Australia. He achieved this feat in 2003.
3. Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar –
The God Of Cricket, Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar has scored runs in every corner of the world. He has been a dominant performer for India in the red ball form of the game and One Day International matches. In 2004, Sachin played an unbeaten knock of 241 runs at SCG which is still known as the most disciplined innings ever.
Sachin didn’t play a single straight drive in that match, which was one of his favourite shots. India drew that match only because of God, who came to rescue the team. Tendulkar was the last Indian batter to score a double century in Australia and since 2004 not a single batter from India has scored 200 runs or more runs Down Under.
