Owaisi Confirms Tahir Hussain’s Candidacy on Social Media

Following the meeting, Asaduddin Owaisi shared the news on his social media platform, X (formerly Twitter). He posted, “Tahir has officially joined AIMIM and will contest the upcoming elections from Mustafabad. His family met me today and became part of this journey.”

Tahir Hussain’s Past and Legal Troubles

Tahir Hussain, a former AAP councilor, came under scrutiny during the 2020 Delhi riots. Accused of inciting violence, he was expelled from the Aam Aadmi Party after his name surfaced in the riots investigation. He is currently in jail but recently received relief from the Delhi High Court, which quashed one of the FIRs lodged against him in connection with the riots.

The FIR, filed on February 27, 2020, accused Hussain of inciting mob violence from the first floor of a building. Despite his legal battles, Hussain has now been positioned as a key player for AIMIM in the upcoming elections.

AIMIM Prepares to Contest 10 Seats

AIMIM is planning to contest 10 seats in the Delhi Assembly elections, scheduled for February 2025. This move could lead to a triangular contest in Muslim-dominated constituencies. All political parties, including the ruling AAP, are gearing up for what promises to be a highly competitive electoral battle.
