Dairy Products Price Hike Ahead of Diwali: In a major inflation setback for consumers right ahead of the Diwali festive season, Tamil Nadu’s leading cooperative dairy brand, Aavin, has announced a widespread price revision across 63 dairy products.
According to media reports, the revised rates came into effect on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, driving up household expenses for festive essentials including cooking ghee, table butter, traditional sweets, curd, and milk-based beverages.
The price adjustments range from a 10% to 25% increase across various product categories. State dairy officials cited rising raw material expenses, increased manufacturing costs, and a recent hike in raw milk procurement prices paid to local dairy farmers as the primary reasons behind the price revision.

Why Have Prices Increased Right Before Diwali?
Dairy Products Price Hike Ahead of Diwali: According to media reports, Aavin operates under the Tamil Nadu Dairy Development Department, retailing over 100 dairy and related items.
The timing of the price revision coming directly prior to Diwali is expected to significantly affect kitchen budgets, as demand for ghee, butter, and traditional sweets spikes heavily during the festive week.
Dairy federation representatives clarified that the state government previously increased raw milk procurement rates by ₹3 to ₹6 per liter to support dairy farmers facing steep cattle feed and operational inflation.
Officials emphasized that over 90% of the additional revenues generated from this retail price modification will be directed toward dairy farmers’ welfare schemes and supporting rural cooperative networks across the state.
