IPL 2025: The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is scheduled to start from March 21. Ahead of the season, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) has taken an important decision by appointing Rishabh Pant as the captain of the team. LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka confirmed the news in a conversation with Star Sports.
Confirming the appointment of Rishabh Pant as the captain, Sanjiv Goenka said, “All the strategies revolved around Rishabh. Everything was planned keeping him in mind.”
When Sanjiv Goenka was asked why Rishabh Pant was picked, he said, “I think time will prove it. He is not only the most expensive player in the IPL but also one of its best players. People often include Dhoni and Rohit among the most successful IPL captains. Mark my words, in 10-12 years Rishabh Pant will also be on that list along with Dhoni and Rohit.”

IPL 2025: Pant’s Reaction to Becoming Captain
Rishabh Pant expressed his gratitude after being made the captain of Lucknow Super Giants. “I am overwhelmed by what he has said about me,” Pant said. He believes that every interaction with Goenka since being selected for the Lucknow team has made him feel warmly welcomed into the franchise.
Rishabh Pant is the most expensive player in IPL history. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) bought him for ₹27 crore in the IPL 2025 auction. Pant captained Delhi Capitals (DC) last season, but the team did not retain him.
Due to this, he had to participate in the auction for the first time since 2016. Although Delhi used the RTM card rule for Pant, Lucknow finally acquired him by placing a big bid.
Pant has previously captained Delhi Capitals in 43 matches, in which the team has won 23 and lost 19, while one match was tied.
