The Uttarakhand government, led by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, is taking strict action against illegal madrasas. As part of this action, the government has sealed five illegal madrasas in Pachwadoon citing lack of facilities and permit violations. Apart from this, a mosque built in violation of rules in Dhakrani has also been sealed.
Nearly 200 Illegal Madrasas Identified in Three Districts
About 200 illegal madrasas running without registration have been identified in three districts of Uttarakhand. Recently, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had ordered verification of madrasas in the state, after which these unauthorized institutions were identified and action was taken against them.
30 Madrasas Deregistered in Haridwar
Earlier, the recognition of 30 madrasas running in Haridwar was cancelled because they were running without registration. At the same time, 415 madrasas are registered under the Uttarakhand Madrasa Board and Uttarakhand Waqf Board, where currently about 46,000 students are enrolled.
Continuous Complaints Regarding Illegal Madrasas
There are constant complaints about illegal and unregistered madrassas. Also, there have been reports of other suspicious activities taking place in these institutions.
In response to this, the Uttarakhand government has decided to investigate all the madrassas operating in the state and their sources of funding. Action against illegal madrassas is ongoing.
