Ayodhya Ram Temple Donation Row: The Uttar Pradesh government has formed a three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to examine allegations related to donations received at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
The move comes after a political controversy erupted over claims that a large amount of donation money may be unaccounted for.
According to official statements, the SIT was constituted following a request from the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, which said an independent inquiry would help establish the facts and address concerns being raised in public discussions.
The team has been asked to submit a preliminary report within seven days and a final report within 15 days.
The SIT includes Lucknow Divisional Commissioner Vijay Vishwas Pant, Inspector General of Police Kiran S, and Finance Department Special Secretary Neel Ratan.
How the Controversy Started
Ayodhya Ram Temple Donation Row: The issue gained attention after Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav raised questions regarding reports of alleged irregularities in temple donations.
He called for greater transparency and sought an independent examination of the matter.
Following these claims, leaders from different political parties offered varying responses.
While opposition leaders demanded a detailed probe, several BJP leaders rejected allegations of wrongdoing and accused critics of spreading unverified information.
The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust responded by stating that internal audits were already being conducted.
Trust officials said no conclusive evidence of wrongdoing had emerged during ongoing reviews and emphasized that donation-related processes are regularly monitored.
Trust Requested Independent Investigation
Ayodhya Ram Temple Donation Row: According to government statements, the temple trust itself requested a detailed inquiry to establish the facts and counter what it described as misinformation surrounding the issue.
Officials said the trust believed an independent probe would help maintain public confidence and provide clarity regarding the handling of donations.
Government representatives also stated that the investigation would examine all relevant facts before any conclusions are drawn.
As of now, authorities have not released any findings indicating whether any financial irregularity actually occurred.
The purpose of the SIT is to verify the allegations and determine whether any discrepancy exists.
How Ram Temple Donations Are Managed
The Ram Temple receives donations from thousands of devotees every day. Donation boxes have been installed at various locations along the temple complex and darshan route.
According to information shared by temple representatives, cash from donation boxes is collected regularly and counted through a process involving banking personnel and trust representatives.
Reports indicate that the State Bank of India has been authorized to oversee cash counting procedures, with additional support from designated agencies involved in the process.
Temple officials have stated that donations made at designated counters are accepted through documented procedures and receipts. According to media reports, a team involving bank officials and trust representatives participates in the counting process.
Legal and Political Developments
The controversy has also reached legal forums. Reports indicate that representations and petitions have been submitted seeking judicial oversight and further investigation into the allegations.
Some public figures have demanded wider disclosure of the trust’s finances, donations, expenditures, and accounting procedures. Others have argued that the ongoing inquiry should be allowed to proceed before any conclusions are reached.
Meanwhile, members of the SIT have begun their work and are expected to focus on financial records, donation collection procedures, and the movement of funds. Officials have stated that the investigation will attempt to establish the complete factual position.
Investigation Still Ongoing
At present, no official investigation report has been released and no final conclusions have been announced. The allegations remain under examination, and authorities have urged the public not to draw conclusions until the inquiry is completed.
The outcome of the SIT probe is expected to provide greater clarity regarding the handling of donations at one of India’s most visited religious sites. Until then, all claims regarding missing funds remain allegations that are subject to verification through the ongoing investigation.
