Delhi Breathes Clean Air Post-Holi, Lowest March AQI Since 2020

According to the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), Delhi on Saturday recorded the cleanest air in the last three years between January 1 and March 15. The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) said that the 24-hour average AQI at 4 pm on Saturday was 85, which falls in the ‘satisfactory’ category. This was the first ‘satisfactory’ AQI day of 2025.

An AQI between 0-50 is categorised as ‘good’, 51-100 ‘satisfactory’, 101-200 ‘moderate’, 201-300 ‘poor’, 301-400 ‘very poor’ and 401-500 ‘severe’.

“Today, the average AQI in Delhi was recorded at 85, the lowest for the period January 1 to March 15 in the last three years,” CAQM said in a tweet while sharing the report on social media platform X.

First Clean Air in March Since 2020

According to the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), Saturday’s AQI was the first ‘satisfactory’ air quality day (AQI 51-100) of the year. The commission also noted that for the first time in five years, Delhi recorded a ‘satisfactory’ AQI in March.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that the maximum temperature in Delhi on Saturday reached 33 degrees Celsius, which was 4.1 degrees Celsius above the seasonal average. The minimum temperature was 18.7 degrees Celsius, while the humidity level ranged between 62% and 50%.

Delhi’s Temperature on the Rise

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Friday was the hottest day of the year so far in Delhi, with the maximum temperature recorded at 36.2 degrees Celsius i.e. 7.3 degrees above normal.

The weather department has predicted partly cloudy sky and light rain or drizzle on Sunday. Light rain was also recorded on Holi evening, followed by strong winds, which improved Delhi’s air quality. Temperatures are expected to rise in the coming days, which is likely to further improve the air quality.
