Naga sadhus and saints will take a royal bath on the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti. The royal bath holds special significance in the Mahakumbh, as it is believed that bathing on this day brings special blessings, which washes away all the sins and sufferings of the devotees.

However, there are certain rules to be followed during the royal bath, and not following them may deprive one of its spiritual benefits. Let’s take a look at the main points to keep in mind during the royal bath.

How Many Amrit Snans Will Take Place in Mahakumbh 2025?

  • First Amrit Snan

The first Amrit Snan (Shahi Snan) of Mahakumbh 2025 will take place on January 14, 2025. On this day, the Sun will enter Capricorn from Sagittarius, which marks the celebration of Makar Sankranti.

According to religious beliefs, bathing in the Ganges and other holy rivers on this day brings spiritual benefits. Apart from this, performing rituals and donating items like sesame, jaggery and khichdi leads to infinite merits.

  • Second Amrit Snan

The second Amrit Snan of Mahakumbh will be on 29 January 2025. On this day, Mauni Amavasya occurs, which has special significance in Hinduism.

On this day, there is a tradition of keeping a silent fast as well as taking a holy bath and offering tarpan. It is believed that bathing in Mahakumbh on Mauni Amavasya gives many times more spiritual benefits.

  • Third Amrit Snan

The third and final Amrit Snan of Mahakumbh will take place on February 3, 2025. This day coincides with the celebration of Basant Panchami. Bathing in the holy river, performing rituals and making donations have special significance on this day.

Basant Panchami is also dedicated to the worship of Goddess Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge, and she is prayed to for wisdom and education.

Things to Keep in Mind on Amrit Snan Day

  • The first bath on the day of Amrit Snan is reserved for Naga sadhus. After them, other prominent saints and sadhus take the holy dip.
  • You should take bath only after the Naga sadhus and saints have taken bath, otherwise you will not be able to get the spiritual benefit of the Kumbh bath.
  • If you are going to take a dip in the Mahakumbh on the day of Amrit Snan, then take care of cleanliness. Do not use soap or shampoo while bathing in the Ganga.
  • After taking bath in Mahakumbh, do visit the temple of Lord Hanuman and Akshaya Vata tree located near Sangam.
  • After the Amrit Snan, it is considered auspicious to donate food, money, clothes, sesame seeds, and other items to the poor and needy.
