WPL 2025: Mumbai Indians defeated Delhi Capitals by 8 runs in a thrilling final to clinch their second Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 title. With this win, Mumbai became the most successful team in WPL history, having also won the inaugural season in 2023.
Mumbai Indians, under the captaincy of Harmanpreet Kaur, defeated Delhi Capitals and once again denied them the championship. Delhi, which made it to the WPL final for the third consecutive time, once again failed to end its wait for the title.
With this win, Mumbai Indians now have two WPL titles, while RCB won the trophy last year.
Mumbai Sets 150-Run Target in WPL 2025 Final
After winning the toss, Delhi Capitals decided to bowl first in the final of WPL 2025. Batting first, Mumbai Indians scored a respectable 149/7 in 20 overs thanks to a brilliant half-century from Harmanpreet Kaur.
Harmanpreet played a captaincy innings and scored 66 runs in 44 balls with the help of 9 fours and 2 sixes. Nat Sciver-Brunt also contributed 30 runs. During this innings, Nat Sciver-Brunt became the first player to score 1,000 runs in the history of WPL.
Delhi Batters Disappoint in WPL 2025 Final
Delhi Capitals got off to a poor start while chasing Mumbai’s target. Their opening pair, captain Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma, returned to the pavilion after scoring just 17 runs. The collapse continued, Jemimah Rodrigues tried to handle the innings but was dismissed for 30 runs. By 10.4 overs, half of Delhi’s batting lineup was out for just 66 runs.
Marizanne Kapp’s Effort Goes in Vain
In the 13th over, Sarah Bryce was run out, giving Delhi the sixth blow. After this, Marizanne Kapp revived Delhi’s hopes by playing a brilliant innings. However, in the 18th over, Nat Sciver-Brunt took two consecutive wickets and turned the match in Mumbai’s favour.
Kapp put up a strong fight by scoring 40 runs off 26 balls, but Shikha Pandey was dismissed for zero. In the end, Delhi Capitals could only manage 141/9 in 20 overs. Nat Sciver-Brunt bowled brilliantly, taking three crucial wickets to ensure Mumbai’s victory.
