TRAGEDY IN VENEZUELA: In a heartbreaking turn of events that has stunned the football world, the wife and two young children of Argentine footballer Lucas Trejo have been confirmed dead. Their bodies were recovered from the wreckage of a collapsed residential building following the catastrophic twin earthquakes that recently struck Venezuela.
The 38-year-old defender, who plays for the Venezuelan club Club Sport Marítimo de La Guaira, faced an unimaginable nightmare. He was away at a team training camp in Caracas when the massive 72 and 75-magnitude quakes hit.
Upon rushing back to his home in the heavily impacted coastal region of Playa Grande, La Guaira, Trejo was met with a horrific scene. The apartment building where his family lived had completely pancaked into dust and debris.
A Desperate 74-Hour Vigil Amid the Ruins
TRAGEDY IN VENEZUELA: Refusing to lose hope, Trejo stayed by the disaster site for over three days, actively assisting in the search and using his social media platforms to plead for emergency canine units. For 74 agonizing hours, the footballer, alongside rescue teams, dug through the concrete, praying for a miracle.
Tragically, those hopes were shattered when emergency responders finally located the bodies of his wife, Yanina Maranella, and their two young children, Aarón and Ainhoa Trejo.
“He found absolutely nothing of what the building itself had been,” Trejo’s brother-in-law, Ricardo Ardiles, told reporters, describing the sheer scale of the obliteration.
