Bhiwandi Building Collapse: Late Thursday night turned tragic near Mumbai when a four-storey residential building collapsed in the Bhiwandi area of Thane district, taking at least nine lives and burying several others under massive mounds of concrete and metal debris.
Rescue teams, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the Thane Disaster Response Force (TDRF), immediately launched a high-priority operation to locate survivors buried in the rubble.

Bhiwandi Building Collapse: According to media reports, the fatal collapse occurred around 11:30 PM on Thursday. The four-storey structure housed 48 rooms split evenly across its floors. However, signs of severe structural failure had begun showing hours prior to the disaster.
Local residents reported hearing alarming cracking noises from the building around 9:00 PM. Sensing imminent danger, neighbors and local officials urged families inside to evacuate without delay.
While many managed to rush outside in time, the building’s B Wing suddenly caved in without warning, trapping workers and remaining occupants beneath tons of heavy debris.
Victims Identified as Rescue Teams Search for Survivors
Bhiwandi Building Collapse: Rescuers working through the night recovered several bodies from the collapse site. According to media reports citing local officials, the deceased have been identified as:

A majority of those who lost their lives were construction laborers engaged in repair work inside the premises when the structure caved in.
Emergency crews successfully pulled six individuals alive from the ruins, including a young boy who was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency care.
High-Stakes Rescue Operation Continues
A massive multi-agency search operation remains active at the site as teams work around the clock to clear heavy concrete slabs.

Specialized First Responders: NDRF and TDRF teams using heavy earth-moving machinery, concrete cutters, and life-detection sensors.
Canine Units: A dedicated dog squad deployed to detect subtle signs of life under dense piles of rubble.
Emergency Support: Four fire engines and multiple ambulances stationed on-site to handle immediate medical needs.
Officials estimate that around 11 people including five repair workers and six residents might still be trapped deep within the collapsed wing.
Ignored Warnings and Unauthorized Construction Exposed
As per media reports citing Arvind Ghogare, Assistant Municipal Commissioner of the Bhiwandi-Nizampur Municipal Corporation, civic officials rushed to the location as soon as reports of deep structural cracks emerged.
“When we reached, we saw that the building was cracking up. We went inside with our team and evacuated the residents,” Ghogare stated. He mentioned that while most families complied quickly, a few individuals hesitated to leave immediately.
According to media reports, the building was barely over ten years old but had already been declared unsafe and dangerous by the local civic body.
Authorities confirmed that unauthorized repair work was actively being carried out at the time of the collapse. While most residents managed to step outside safely, several laborers working inside could not escape before the entire structure came crashing down.
Rescue and clearing operations are still underway as authorities focus on reaching anyone left beneath the rubble.
