Purple Cap: Bowlers do the most difficult job in a format like T20 and a tournament like the Indian Premier League. Many times, they need to bowl to conditions that are more suited to batsmen. The bowlers bowl on flat pitches where the batters always take that advantage to gain an upper hand.
In the IPL, the Purple Cap is given to the bowlers who pick up the most wickets in a single edition of this cash-rich league tournament. Today, in this segment, we shall mention those three bowlers who have won the Purple Cap for the most times in the history of the TATA Indian Premier League –
1. Dwayne Bravo –

The fast bowling all-rounder from the West Indies, Dwayne Bravo, has won the Purple Cap for the most number of times. Bravo had played for CSK (Chennai Super Kings) when he achieved this milestone in the cash-rich league T20 tournament. In 2013, DJ picked up 32 scalps and two editions later in 2015, Bravo picked up 26 wickets to his name to win the Purple Cap twice in this league, and he is the only overseas bowler to get to this record in the IPL.
2. Bhuveshwar Kumar –

The swing bowler, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, was the all-format bowler for the Men in Blue. But now, he is not a part of the national side anymore and in any form of the game, despite the high-quality talent he possesses. Bhuvi is the only pace bowler in the IPL who has won the Purple Cap in two back-to-back seasons.
In 2016, when Sunrisers Hyderabad won their title, Bhuvneshwar Kumar also won the Purple Cap for the first time. He had picked up 23 scalps in that title-winning edition of the Orange Army. His second Purple Cap also came when Bhuvi played for the SRH side.
In 2017, which was the next season, Kumar was again the Purple Cap holder for the Orange Army. Bhuvneshwar got 26 wickets to his name in that season. But SRH couldn’t defend their title. Now, Bhuvi plays for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the TATA IPL 2025.
3. Harshal Patel –

Harshal Patel is the last member and the second Indian bowler who has won the Purple Cap more than once in the Indian Premier League. Patel won the Purple Cap for two different franchise teams of the Indian Premier League, which is also a unique record.
Harshal’s first-ever Purple Cap came in 2021 when he played for the team of Royal Challengers Bengaluru. He picked up 32 wickets to his name. His second and last Purple Cap came when he played for the Punjab Kings, when he got 24 scalps in the TATA IPL 2024.
Now, Harshal is again in that list of bowlers who have picked up the most wickets in the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League. Patel is ranked sixth wiith 13 wickets from eight matches. Harshal should eye to win the Purple Cap for the third time to make a record in this TATA IPL 2025 edition because no bowler has won the Purple Cap thrice till now.
