She criticized the BJP government saying that the party only knows how to politicize religion and is undermining democratic principles through its involvement in civil matters.

The Government need not to interfere- Iqra

Iqra said that action against such acts are being taken under the existing law. If an adult is using the rights given in the Constitution with his consent, then there is no need for the government to interfere in it.

‘BJP is doing this because of religious politics’

If conversion is being done by trapping or wrongly, then the laws we already have are sufficient, but BJP is doing this because of religious politics. The order they gave to install name plates during the Kanwar Yatra was under this. Now their politics is dying, so this is being done. As our president Akhilesh Yadav had said that just like a diya flickers before it is extinguished, the same is the condition of BJP.

She also criticized the concept of “love jihad,” claiming it is used to spread discord and target specific communities unfairly. Iqra emphasized that marriage across religions is a personal matter and should not be politicized. She stressed that the government should respect individual rights as guaranteed by the Constitution, which includes the freedom to change one’s religion, marry, and live according to personal choices without government interference.

What’s the law?

The Yogi government of Uttar Pradesh has enacted a law regarding love jihad, and a bill has been introduced in the assembly today.
According to this bill, a person committing a crime such as jihad can be sentenced to life imprisonment. Additionally, preparations are being made to bring funding for illegal religious conversion under the purview of this crime. In the law, the guilty can be punished with 20 years of imprisonment or life imprisonment.
Any person can now file an FIR in cases of conversion; previously, this right was reserved for the girl’s family only.
No court below the sessions court will hear cases of love jihad.
