The Dark Side of ‘Desi Bling’: Netflix’s latest reality series, Desi Bling a spin-off of the hit show Dubai Bling was supposed to showcase the aspirational, ultra-luxurious lives of wealthy Indian expats in Dubai.
Instead, it has sparked a massive wave of public outrage. At the center of this storm is billionaire entrepreneur couple Satish Sanpal and his wife, Tabinda Sanpal.
During a recent episode, Tabinda made shocking remarks regarding Satish’s habit of partying with other women. She stated:
“Satish goes out partying, I know that he goes out with girls. When there’s a different girl every time, it’s okay, but if it’s the same girl every time, then you think it’s a problem.”
The implication that cheating is acceptable as long as the husband does not form an “emotional attachment” to the same woman immediately went viral, drawing heavy fire from social media users and public figures.
Filmmaker Lakshmi R. Iyer blasted the couple for setting terrible examples in the name of being “modern,” while actress Devoleena Bhattacharjee mocked the statement online. Co-star Tejasswi Prakash summed up the transactional nature of the marriage brutally on the show, noting, “If there is 40 kg of gold, then all of this is okay.”
Furthermore, viewers were baffled by Tabinda’s disclosure of her daily routine, which includes massaging Satish’s feet every morning so he can “wake up like a prince.” Critics have pointed out that the show is actively normalizing toxic marital dynamics, subservience, and infidelity, packaged under the glittering wrapping paper of multi-crore wealth.
From an 8th-Grade Dropout to Dubai Penthouses
The Dark Side of ‘Desi Bling’: To the unversed, Satish Sanpal’s official rags-to-riches story sounds like a Bollywood script.
Born into a modest middle-class family in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, Sanpal showed no interest in academics and dropped out of school after the eighth grade. Driven by a desire to make quick money, he borrowed ₹50,000 from his mother at age 17 to start a neighborhood grocery store.
When that business failed, he transitioned into the stock market as a commission-based broker before moving to Dubai.
According to Sanpal, his big break came during the COVID-19 pandemic when he aggressively invested his capital into a crashing Dubai real estate market. He claims his investments appreciated nearly 20 times, allowing him to establish ANAX Holding and ANAX Developments.
Today, his displayed lifestyle is astonishing:
A combined net worth estimated between $1.5 billion and $3 billion (₹14,000+ crore).
A residence in the iconic Burj Khalifa and an under-construction 50,000 sq. ft. mega-mansion in Dubai Hills.
An elite supercar fleet featuring a ₹35-crore Bugatti Chiron and custom pink Rolls-Royce models for his children.
A staggering collection of 40 kg of gold owned by his wife, alongside solid gold cutlery for his toddler daughter.
The Hidden Past: 9 Criminal Cases and a ₹1,000-Crore Hawala Network
The Dark Side of ‘Desi Bling’: While Desi Bling projects Satish Sanpal as a visionary corporate mogul, Indian law enforcement agencies paint a starkly different, darker picture. Beneath the layers of gold and supercars lies a history of severe criminal allegations that explain his abrupt move from India to Dubai.
Sanpal has been linked to at least nine criminal cases in India involving financial fraud, illegal gambling, and money laundering. According to investigative reports by cyber-crime journalists, Sanpal allegedly ran a massive dark-web betting empire and a ₹1,000-crore hawala network.
Indian police authorities, particularly in Madhya Pradesh (Jabalpur), filed serious complaints (such as FIR No. 356/2022) against Sanpal and his associates.
The investigations revealed that Sanpal allegedly operated through a web of at least 12 fake “shell” companies, such as Nutritive Traders Private Limited. These fronts were reportedly used to launder massive amounts of cash generated from illegal online betting applications.
When Indian authorities began tightening the noose around this illicit financial network, Sanpal managed to leave the country.
Safe in Dubai a region known for its historically lenient stance on foreign capital inflows he successfully repurposed his massive wealth into legitimate luxury real estate developments, gold trading, and hospitality, effectively shielding himself from immediate arrest.
The Legal Reality Today
While critics label him a “fugitive don living a royal life,” Sanpal’s legal team has worked aggressively to clear his path back to India. Legal documents from the Delhi High Court (Satish Sanpal vs Jagran Prakashan Limited & Ors) indicate that Sanpal has sued various media houses for defamation.
His defense team successfully proved in court that competent Indian judicial benches granted him regular bail between December 2025 and January 2026 regarding his pending corporate fraud cases. Because he is legally out on bail, Indian courts have restricted media outlets from branding him an active “absconder” or “fugitive.”
Nevertheless, the reality remains that Sanpal’s empire was built on a foundation currently scrutinized by financial crime units. His presence on Desi Bling serves as a stark reminder of how easily reality television can gloss over criminal allegations, converting a controversial figure into a celebrated billionaire icon while his family openly promotes a highly questionable lifestyle.
